Our Grand Baie lodges
A look around the lodges
Here's where we'll be living for the month.
Life around the table
Food & cooking
A fully equipped kitchen in every lodge, shared dinners we organise, and a group that actually turns up to cook.
Food costs are separate from your stay.
What to expect?
This one is an island chapter. You spend a month working from a lodge in a tropical garden, right behind the Grand Baie bazaar, with two pools, hammocks under the palm trees, and the sea a stone's throw away. Your morning coffee comes from the bazaar next door. Expect lagoon days and catamarans to the islands up north at the weekend, long dinners with the whole group during the week, and a crew that makes leaving difficult.

FOOD
Mauritian food is a mix of Creole, Indian, Chinese and French cooking, and one month is barely enough to eat your way through it. The bazaar is next door, the restaurants on the promenade are a short walk away, and we organise the shared dinners. Pasta will happen at some point. It is a Casa Basilico rule.

COMMUNITY
Two people to a lodge, and everyone else a few steps away around the pools. A host lives on site with you, and we hand-pick the group so the vibe lands from day one.

ADVENTURE
Catamaran days out to the Northern Islands, snorkelling at Trou aux Biches, kitesurfing at Grand Gaube, a hike up Le Morne with our local partner, and weekends we plan so you do not have to.

More than a room!
Look, we get it. You could book a lodge here yourself and spend the month talking to the palm trees. But that is not what you are getting.
You are getting us. A host living on site, looking after you all month. Something breaks, we sort it. You want to know which beach to pick on a Sunday, where to get a SIM card, how to get to the kitesurf spot? Sorted. Hungry after a long day of calls with Europe? Someone is already chopping onions for dinner.
You are getting weekends we have already planned. Boat days, hikes, beach days, long lunches in places you would not have found on your own. You do not lift a finger, you just show up.
You are getting welcome dinners, spontaneous pasta nights, and a group of people hand-picked to make sure the vibe is right.
So yeah, the room is part of it. But the room is honestly the least interesting thing we offer.

More Information
Accommodation details
Our home for the month is a lodge estate behind the Grand Baie bazaar: about 5,000 m² of tropical garden, two pools, hammocks and swings under the palms, and ping-pong, darts, petanque, archery and backgammon for when the laptop closes. One of the owners shapes surfboards and made most of the wooden furniture himself, so the whole place feels half beach house, half workshop.
There are four lodges today, and the property is adding more. The two garden lodges are on the ground floor and open straight onto the lawn and the pools. The two terrace lodges are upstairs, each with its own balcony and a view over the greenery. Every lodge has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with a TV and a wooden dining table, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. There is private parking too, if you rent a car.
Coworking & Remote Work
We are not promising a coworking space on this one. You work from your lodge, where the wooden dining table doubles as a desk (shared with your housemate), with high-speed Wi-Fi and air conditioning. The garden is right outside when you want a change of scene.
Experience/ Lifestyle
Grand Baie runs on island time. Give it a week and so will you. Work during the day, then close the laptop, walk to the promenade and swim before dinner, and spend the weekends somewhere with a boat in it. The group around you is all in on it, and between the two pools and the Indian Ocean down the road, you will not run out of places to swim.
Pipa gets Carnival, Buenos Aires gets steak. Mauritius gets the lagoon. Our month lands in June, in the cooler, drier part of the year, which is when you want to be outdoors here. Bain Boeuf, Pereybère and La Cuvette beaches are about 10 minutes away. Snorkelling at Trou aux Biches and kitesurfing at Grand Gaube are on the weekend list, and the catamarans head out to Gabriel Island, Flat Island and Coin de Mire. The Pamplemousses garden, L'Aventure du Sucre and Château de Labourdonnais are all under 30 minutes by car, for the days you want sugar history instead of sand.
Through our local partner you can add a sega evening, a Port Louis food walk, a paddle session or a hike up Le Morne. Optional extras, paid separately, for whoever wants them.
EXAMPLE DAY
You wake up whenever you would like 🌞
Your housemate is already outside with a coffee. Join them.
Breakfast in the garden, or a swim first if you are that kind of person.
Worky worky time during the day 💻 (Europe is two to three hours behind in June, so your mornings are yours)
AFTER WORK
Close the laptop and jump in the pool, or walk over to the bazaar. Some people go for ping-pong, darts or a round of petanque, someone always wants to try the archery, and somebody else is asleep in a hammock.
EVENINGS
Chopping onions, someone puts on music, dinner with the whole group. Then either bed or a drink on the promenade, your call.
Travel & Logistics
ARRIVAL INFO
Fly into Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), in the south-east of the island. Grand Baie is up in the north, so you cross most of the island to get to us, and we will sort the ride for you.
TIME ZONE INFO
Mauritius is UTC+4, with no daylight saving. In June that puts you two hours ahead of Central Europe and three ahead of the UK, which is easy for European teams. New York is eight hours behind, so American calls land in your evening.
TRANSFER OPTIONS
An airport transfer arranged with our local partner, paid separately. Once you are here, the Grand Baie promenade, shops and restaurants are all walkable. For everything further out, we plan the group trips, or you rent a car and use the private parking at the lodges.
BEST TRAVEL TIMES
Arrive on 1 June for a smooth start.
VISA
Most nationalities can visit Mauritius without applying for a visa in advance, just with a valid passport. Rules change, so check your own before you book flights, and ask us if you are unsure.
